Being linked to both Real Madrid and Manchester City is perhaps the ultimate stamp of approval that you are one of the hottest properties in world soccer. Right now, Canadian international Alphonso Davies has that stamp.

The Bayern Munich left-back has been one of the best in his position across the globe for the last few seasons, and with Transfermarkt rating Phonzie as the most valuable left-back in the world currently, it’s not a surprise that City and Real are apparently interested in the Canadian superstar, as reported by Sky Sports Germany and Bayern expert Florian Plettenberg.

Ferland Mendy’s recurring injuries have become a growing problem for Los Blancos, forcing them to employ Eduardo Camavinga at left-back, at the cost of wasting his potential in midfield. So, the Galacticos might be hoping Davies can be the long-term solution.

Just like Real Madrid, Man City have also been without a proper left-back after selling Oleksandr Zinchenko to Arsenal and loaning out João Cancelo. Although they have since moved to a three-at-the-back formation, adding Davies could give them an option to go back to a four-man defence or use the former Vancouver Whitecaps man as a wingback.

But it won’t be easy for either club to get Davies out of Munich. The 22-year-old has been in great form this season, and there have been reports about a contract extension for the Edmonton native.

Transfermarkt expert and Canadian Soccer Daily contributor Manuel Veth reports that sources suggest Davies just wants to finish the season before assessing his options. He hasn’t been thriving under new manager Thomas Tuchel (neither have Bayern, in fairness) and that could be a factor that leads to him reassessing his future.

Many pairs of eyes, both Canadian and foreign, will be on him during the summer, particularly if two former Bayern managers Carlo Ancelotti and Pep Guardiola battle it out for the current Bayern star.
